Sophia Webster brought some fun to the runway with her spring/summer 2017 collection titled “Dolly Birds of Paradise.” Her collection was shown Sept. 19. Her models posed in giant bird cages in a tropical island inspired setting. Webster is a British accessories designer founded in 2012, and has become well-known for its one-of-a-kind accessories. Webster debuted her first collection for Spring/Summer 2013 fashion week. She has now grown her brand internationally and her products are distributed to over 200 retailers. According to www.londonfashionweek.co.uk, “Sophia was awarded the Conde Nast Footwear Emerging Designer of the Year 2012, British Fashion Award for Emerging Accessories Designer 2013 and the British Fashion Council’s New Gen Award for her first 3 consecutive seasons. She also won the BFC Vogue Fashion Fund in 2016, becoming the second shoe designer in history to receive this prestigious prize. Immediately following her graduation from the Royal College of Art, Sophia was appointed as Assistant Designer to Nicholas Kirkwood.” For this year’s London Fashion Week Sophia Webster has graced us with more incredible designs. Her themes for this collection are peacock patterns, bright colors, fur and satin.
Dolly Birds of Paradise
One of my favorite things about all of Sophia’s collections is that she puts so much attention on every detail of her designs. From the colors to the textures every piece has its own unique touch. Webster isn’t scared of patterns at all and her designs give you the courage to wear that bold shoe or bag. This shoe is called the “Effie” platform sandals and the clutch is called “Vivi.” The way the peacock pattern is used makes me actually want to wear it. I would never think to wear that pattern at all. This entire look is very cohesive and it compliments each other so well.
I am in total love with this look because of its playfulness and how chic it is. The green skirt makes this look pop along with the accessories. This look reminds me of a modern day Audrey Hepburn with more vibrant colors, of course.
The baby blue satin dress gives me 1960s fashion vibes. The shapeless shift dress, drop waists, and the pop art trend is shown in this look. The chunky platform heels and the clutch ties the look together.
This look features the brand new platform style pump "Carmela." Carmela has a very sleek heel with a thick platform. The wide sleeves trimmed in fur seems like a big trend this year. In this look, along with others, we see bold vibrant patterns.
London Fashion Week is my favorite fashion week to see. All the looks just seem so much more chic and fashion forward than the other fashion weeks. Fashion in London is so much better in my opinion. There are so many beautiful colors, textures and creativity that I enjoy seeing on the runway. London Fashion Week makes me excited for the how fashion is evolving and expanding.
