Lizzo Landed Her First British Vogue Cover and it's Good as Hell!
As I scrolled down my instagram feed yesterday afternoon, I was smiling so hard when I saw British Vogue's editor in chief, Edward Enninful announce that rapper and singer Lizzo is their December cover star. In our recent talks on the importance of representation it makes me so happy that Lizzo is another an example for this generation of young women. As a black curvy women on one of the most prestigious fashion magazine in the world, I know this opportunity not only means so much to Lizzo but also millions of young girls that look like her.
In this interview, Lizzo shares that when she was growing up she didn't see any people that looked like her.
“I would watch things on television and I would look at magazines and I would not see myself,” she says. “When you don’t see yourself, you start to think something’s wrong with you. Then you want to look like those things and when you realize it’s a physical impossibility, you start to think, ‘What the fuck is wrong with me?’ I think that took a greater toll on me, psychologically, growing up than what anyone could have said to me.”
This experience has led Lizzo to take her empowering approach in music and she hasn't looked back since. She believes that you should embrace and love yourself and encourages her fans to do the same. she acknowledges that it's a tough task but she believes that it's totally possible.
Remember you are 100% THAT B*TCH!!!
